Across five immersive days, established historical fiction author Caroline Lea will guide you through the craft of researching, structuring, and developing a historical novel. Through morning workshops, afternoon writing sessions, and you’ll explore the techniques that underpin powerful storytelling.

Each day blends structured teaching, hands‑on exercises, personalised feedback, and time to write. Whether you’re beginning a new project or refining an existing one, you’ll leave with a clearer vision, stronger craft, and renewed creative momentum.

Crafting Authentic Narratives explore the nuances of historical storytelling. Learn how to weave fact and fiction into rich, immersive narratives that feel both grounded and alive.

Story Structure & Plotting shape your narrative arc, refine your pacing, and build tension. Explore how structure supports emotional resonance and thematic depth.

Setting the Scene develop the skills to evoke vivid fictional worlds. From sensory detail to cultural texture, learn how to transport readers into the heart of your chosen era.

Character Developments discover how to build layered, believable characters shaped by their time period. Learn how to balance historical accuracy and psychological depth with emotional truth.

Voice & Style experiment with narrative voice, tone, and rhythm to create a style that feels authentic to your setting while remaining compelling to readers.

Personalised Expert Feedback

Receive tailored guidance on your writing throughout the retreat. Caroline will offer one‑to‑one feedback sessions to help you refine your ideas, strengthen your prose, and develop your project. An additional cost of £45 for an hour-long one-to-one session applies. Time slots can be organised while on the retreat.
